Green TEA Project

Responsible Tourism on the Huon Trail

The experience of travelling on the Huon Trail is all about the sublime beauty of the area. To reinforce this, a group of operators are 'doing their bit' to make sure that their businesses have a minimal and reducing impact on the environment.

About forty tourism businesses are involved in the program called Green TEA [Tourism Environmental Audit] which is about helping operators to reduce their energy use, water and wastage while still maintaining excellent service for visitors.

Starting early in 2009 operators are measuring and recording their usage of energy, water and production of waste. This data is entered onto a personalised web-page so each business can be benchmarked to [hopefully] achieve international environmental best practice. During the year it is expected that many of these operators will improve their performance to become certified as Green Globe Lite businesses in the future.

Green TEA is funded by the Australian Government Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, run by the Huon Valley Kingborough Tourism Association [HVKTA], and supported by the Huon Valley and Kingborough Councils.

The program is designed to assist all the participating operators to improve their environmental performance. Each operator will have to achieve predetermined environmental standards. This is not an exercise in green washing. If, as a visitor to the region you have any concerns about any environmental standards of Green TEA participants, or can suggest ways to improve standards please let us know through this website.

Below is a list of businesses participating in Green TEA project listed under their location. Some of the businesses may choose to include the Green TEA logo in their marketing.
