Inverawe Native Gardens

It’s Autumn at Inverawe and the Correas and Croweas are in bloom. With the incredible run of dry weather, birds are getting thirsty and our water bowls are constantly busy. Robert, a visitor from France, was delighted to get a close up shot of a Forty Spotted pardalote drinking from a water bowl. Robert was just two or three metres away. Other Autumn visitors have included Striated Pardalotes, Yellow Wattle birds, Black Headed and Yellow Throated Honey Eaters.

Kay from South Africa was very impressed with our interpretation signs. “You can get some idea what it was like for those early explorers and botanists” she said. “It makes it come alive.”

Several visitors have asked if we are going to publish the poetry they see around the garden. Yes we are…watch this space!

Inverawe Native Gardens, Tasmania’s largest landscaped native garden – behind the Margate Train. Open seven days a week until the end of May.

Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs

In February 2010, the Urban Renewal and Heritage Fund (URHF) provided Parks and Wildlife Service with $359,000 for Hastings Caves State Reserve infrastructure maintenance. Two aspects of the grant are to improve the change-room amenities block (plumbing, painting, roofing etc.) and empty and resurface the pool interior.

It is intended that works relating to the pool reserve area will commence Monday 12 April 2010 – immediately after the Tasmanian Easter school holiday break. It is expected this phase of the project will be completed within four weeks from that date.

Hastings Newdegate Cave and Visitor Centre will operate as normal during the closure, however there will be no access for visitors to the pool, barbeques or short walks.

Opening hours from March until the end of September are 10am to 4pm. Guided cave tours are conducted hourly from 11am to 3pm.
