Signs and stories

Federal grant provides a wealth of information

Visitors to the Huon Trail are able to benefit from a range of new visitor conveniences and publications.
A 2006 grant secured from the Australian Government has helped the Huon Trail revitalise existing signage and install new interpretation panels throughout the region.

The focuses of the signs are on the people and stories of the region – its industries, environment and history are all themes which offer an insight into the local areas.

Keep an eye out for new interpretive signage on the Huonville foreshore, Geeveston's town centre and Heritage Park (all pictured), Cockle Creek, Southport, Bruny Island's Neck, Adventure Bay, Margate and Kettering, along with the distinctive interpretive roadside markers located throughout the region. In addition to signage, visitors can obtain several new brochures including the new Far South Touring Map and Guide, Geeveston Circuit Walk (incorporating the Platypus Walk) and a new Adventure Bay brochure. You can now download most of these brochures on the
Free Downloads page.

We are also excited to introduce the Huon Food Trail and Cygnet Art Trail as two new experiences for the region. Play ‘hunter gatherer’ on the food trail, travelling the region and obtaining fresh produce for your menu before returning to your accommodation to cook a fresh and exquisite seasonal 3-course dinner.

For those interested in arts and crafts, Cygnet offers a concentrated number of the Huon Trail's talented artisans. A brochure gives you information on how to meet them in person and to view the large range of local paintings, crafts, pottery, recycled furniture and much more.

The Huon Valley and Kingborough Councils would like to thank the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism for the opportunity to implement this exciting project and to be able to provide enhanced interpretation and experiences to our visitors.

This is an Australian Government-funded initiative under the Australian Tourism Development Program.
